General Notes:
I thought that this might be the best place to start the story as I have brought it all together.
My mother's maiden name was Aske, my grandfather being Robert. His lineage
goes right back to about 1050, so if you want to wander down that path
the route is through my mother. Of particular interest is Robert
Aske born 1484.
My surname is said to be of Irish origins, with a branch of the family moving to Cornwall. The abilty of the family to climb the Cornish cliffs 'quickly' while smuggling is said to be the origin of the name. One branch of the family moved up to London, the home of the main brandy market; but the others, of a religious persusasion, stayed behind and migrated through the South West. As far as I know, the Quick and the Quicke families are of the same origins.
This family tree is derived substantially from earlier research in the 1960s known as the Coultous Pedigree Tree and held at Hull University. Since that time archive material on the Internet has become available, and this has been used to enhance the earlier knowledge. In particular the indices of the IGI , and of the FreeBMD have been used, together with the census records of 1881 and 1901, and other public and private documents. There has been consultation with the College of Arms. In respect of more recent times there is some first hand anecdotal evidence. At this time I have not obtained copies of original master records.
Happy browsing
